Professor Arturo Guerrero was born in Lazaro Cardenas Chihuahua Mexico on December 24 1962. He attended elementary, middle and high school in Chihuahua. Miguel Justino Medrano; his teacher instilled in him the love for the Mexican dance. In 1984 he graduated from the Academia de Danza in
Mexico City, obtaining a Bachelors degree in Mexican Folklorico Dance; and a associates degree
Diploma from the University of Chihuahua ‘’Bellas artes’’. and 3 summer courses from ESCUELA SUPERIOR DE DANZA in Chihuahua Mexico.
Once he graduated he started working with The Secretary of Public Education giving workshops in Universities through out Mexico, such as Durango, Veracruz, Puebla, Queretaro, Tabasco, Morelos and
many more.
In 1985 after the devastating earthquake in Mexico City he joined his family here in El Paso where in a short while he became an assistant director of the famous Rosa Guerrero’s International Ballet
Folklorico for four years
In 1987 he met his wife Terry Bustillos and in 1988 they had a son Jesus Arturo Guerrero Jr. In 1989 his dream of having his own group came true. The Ballet Folklorico of El Paso began with a group of four girls and one boy. (Alice Arriaga,Laura Herrera,Ali Mijares,Verena Aragon & Oscar Bursiaga).
Through the years the group as grown and consist of students from the ages of 6 to adults.
In 1999 Mr. Guerrero took on his biggest challenge when he was diagnosed with cancer. He was in and out of the hospital for the year and a half. In 2001 his cancer went into remission and to this date it has continued to be in remission.
This year the Ballet Folklorico of El Paso celebrated its 18th anniversary. Mr. Guerrero considers himself to be totally loyal to each folklore region the group performs. Mr. Guerrero’s choreography not only follows set pattern but also allows the group’s members to fully display Mexico’s traditional folklore.
Mr. Guerrero taught Folklorico at Loretto Academy for 15 years and now continues to teach at St. Joseph School. He has also been part of the musicals such as “Revolucion”. He continues to be part of
the musical “Viva Mexico”.
This year received the prestigious award "Hispanic Leadership award given by The Congress of The
United States" and Last Year received the prestigious award “Mc Donald’s Hispanos Triunfadores” in the Art’s & Entertainment Category.
His dedication to the arts has allowed him to teach and conduct seminars in various cities. And
Universities as Colorado State, Princeton and Texas A&M. For the past 9 years Mr. Guerrero has worked at the Las Cruces Mariachi Conference with Prof. Jose Tena. and Prof. Rafael Zamarripa. Director of the Ballet Folklorico Tierra del encanto and Ballet Folklorico Of the University of Colima Mexico. Mr.Guerrero recently opened his new dance studio
